FDA EXTENDS ITS TIME FOR DECISION ON Youngevity AND LIFE EXTENSTION FOUNDATION'S OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS/CORONARY HEART
DISEASE HEALTH CLAIM PETITION
Washington, D.C. The FDA has extended the time for the issuance of its decision on the omega-3 fatty acid claim to June 18,
2004. Although the Office of Management and Budget sent a prompt letter to FDA urging immediate action on issuance of the
claim, FDA's work load is said to be too heavy to permit issuance of a decision today, as originally scheduled.
In its May 27, 2003 letter to the FDA, OMB stated, Coronary heart disease (CHD) is our nation's largest cause of premature
death for both men and women, killing over 500,000 Americans each year. Even a modest improvement in dietary habits may lead
to significant reductions in the number of premature deaths from CHD.
